IMPACT WEIGHER
Impact weighers are used in many locations to provide mass flow rate and totals information for free flowing dry bulk materials. Impact weighers are useful where other were other weighing devices are not suitable. They are advantageous where there is:
- Limited room is available,
- There is no conveyor present for a Belt Weigher,
- The configuration of the conveyor will not allow the installation of a Belt Weigher.
Application
Impact Weighers are normally used to:
- Monitor the flow rate of product into a process
- Batching product out of a bin
Accuracy
An Impact Weigher has similar accuracy to a Single Idler Belt Weigher. Accuracy is highly dependent upon the flowability of the product and the consistency of the flow rate. High accuracies can be achieved depending upon the application.
Flow Rate
Flow rates up to 500tph. (This is dependent upon bulk density.)
Available Outputs
An Impact Weigher will provide:
- The total of the material passing, and
- Instantaneous Flow Rate.
- An analogue output signal can be used to control other equipment.
- RS232, RS422/485 Communications
- Pulse Output

Method of Operation
Impact weighers work by measuring the deflection caused by the impact of dry material flow upon a plate fitted with a load cell.
Selection Criteria
Impact weighers can provide a dust tight, reliable and repeatable alternative to belt weighers
Impact weighers operate effectively in situations where is:
- Miinimal headroom.
- Dry free flowing material
- A continuous flow of material
- Limited turn down. (The ratio of maximum to minimum flow rates.)
- Impact weighers are not suitable where:
- Product is sticky, or
- The flowrate is variable
